    Hi,

I'm currently based in the Middle East and was thinking of making a weekend trip to Muscat in Oman.

Has anyone ever been? Is it worth a visit? Any recommendations would be great, thanks!

I had a brief trip there last October.

It's a small city but not without its charms. I would recommend hiring a car because there are a lot of cool natural things to see close to the city.

As regards in the city, the grand mosque is beautiful. Also the beach is very nice and there are some great restaurants. The grand bazaar is nice but probably nothing too special if you're already in the Middle East. Mostly I found the place relaxing, it had a very slow and calm pace about it. Which is great if that's what you're looking for.

Spent a few days here 2 years ago. Absolutely loved it. Bigtoe has mentioned a good few sites. I hadn't experienced a bazaar like that before and was blown away by the atmosphere in it. The old town at dusk time is fabulous - just really relaxing and chilled. I found the people incredibly hospitable and likeable. Lovely beaches as well. Definitely worth a few days visiting.
