Honda accord 2.2ctdi alternator

My 2005 honda accord 2.2ctdi has been making some weird noises under the bonnet and a family friend, who is a mechanic, confirmed my alternator is on the way out. I've steadily increased my diy skills the last while and the same friend is going to walk me through swapping it out for a new one.

The issue is sourcing one. I see a number of options:-

A genuine Honda part is going to cost more than the car is worth.

An aftermarket new one is not far off the value of the car either!

A refurbished one would be reasonably priced but I believe, depending on who did the refurbishing, reliability can be an issue in the short term.

Breakers yard / eBay second hand one could be a total gamble on whether it works (?) but could be got for small money relative to the other options.

Any advice on how ye approach these scenarios from the diy perspective?

Links to a good value one would be epic ! :)
