    Hi all,

My wife originally applied for disability allowance this time last year it was rejected in Novermber 2016 and heavily appealed for which is now August 2017 and every time we call for a update it's with the appeals office no more info can be given! I'm fed up!! How long does this take?

Can I complain about that it's take over a year and only 2 letters to date one to say rejected and one to say appeal has been received.

I originally applied 5 years ago for DA was turned down, appealed and was turned down again. Made another claim 2 years later and got turned down again. Made another claim last June and finally got accepted in January this year. Try to be patient and never give up. You will get there in the end and all payments will be backdated to
when you first applied. Good luck!

Are you getting SWA while you're waiting?

It's a means tested payment she might not be entitled to it

I miss read your post apologies .

Yes but disability allowance is a means tested payment ,you are not guaranteed she will get it depending on your earnings

No problem :) thanks for that it looks like we will have to just wait and see by the sounds of things.

Just frustrated with it it's not as if she gave up work by choice or wanted to for that matter :-//

What were the grounds for it being disallowed and when you appealed did you focus on them?

You could also check the means test and see what amount she would get if she is eligible, if your earnings are too high for SWA they could be too high for DA too or it could mean she gets a small amount. It's unlikely she will get the full amount anyway.

The amount might be small but there are other benefits including a free travel pass, free TV licence and 35 Euro a month towards electricity and possibly a medical card/doctor visit card.

She won't be eligible for the household benefits package while living with someone who works full time.
