Smoke Alarms - where should I put them

I'm intent on putting smoke alarms in all of the bedrooms upstairs. Where should I put each one - inside the door or elsewhere. I have already put one on the landing ceiling. I have an electric shower in the en-suite - would I need a smoke alarm in there as well?
