NCT brake line incorrect assembly (Pics)

    Hi,

Car failed NCT on an incorrect assembly of the nearside (drivers I assume?) brake lines.

I'm just looking at the lines now and finding it hard to see the issue. Tester said it's as if the brake line is "pigtailing" due to being on too tight?

I've the images of both front wheels attached.

Any thoughts before I throw it into the garage?

    Thanks

see on the passenger side image on the bottom left where the hose connects to the caliper the hose is twisting id assume thats what the nct guy means id imagine it will cost very little to get fixed assuming the hoses are not damages

Nearside is closest to the kerb.

The length is too tight.Brake line could become stretched when turning and overtime perish.

I think that the flexi hose was replaced at some time maybe, there's is a definite curl on it near the calipers. It needs to be loosened at the upper end where it joins the metal pipe, then straightened at the calipers, and re-tightened at the metal joint. Will most likely need to bleed the brake fluid after doing this. Or maybe even replace the pipe altogether to pass the NCT at this stage, as they may consider it to be damaged internally....but the same assembly will apply... tighten the caliper end first, after correctly aligning it, then the upper connection, then bleed.

Most likely that when brake pads were being changed that the caliper was refitted one turn clockwise or anticlockwise as the case may be.

Simplest solution here is to have your mechanic take off the brake caliper and refit it properly. Looking at the picture, I would say this will solve the problem and unlikely that there is any damage done to the flexible hose.

Common enough that this can come up.

For the small extra cost I'd replace that hose it looks very kinked at the caliper. It's very shoddy workmanship and dangerous too.

Thanks for the info folks. I had assumed that nearside referred to from a drivers point of view. I understand the issue much better now. Will get it sorted. Thanks again.

No bother, that's where the Nct is a good thing.
