Red not matching gear?

    Hi everyone.

    I have a Toyota auris 08 model
As of late sometimes when I change gear it's like the rev counter doesn't change until after a few seconds.
It's like it's still thinking I'm in the last gear and because of this I get very short bursts/jumps when it eventually matches my gear.
This ever happen to anyone? It's never happened to me before in the 3 yrs I have it.

It doesn't happen all the time but seems to be getting more and more frequent since I've noticed it.

Anyone any ideas what's the cause if it?

Edit :title is meant to be rev not red damn phone.

you mean when you change up the revs don't drop accordingly straight away? Sounds like a slipping clutch to me

Exactly when I change the revs don't drop but as I accelerate when I do change the rev shoots up as if I never changed gear then I get jerked /boosted a little when it finally does drop.

It could also be a sticking throttle linkage/cable.
The rev counter is just an clock for showing engine speed., it in itself doesn't affect anything.

Wasn't this a feature of some VVTi Toyota's, when you were accelerating up through the gears, the revs would hold for a second after you press the clutch to ensure a smoother shift into the next gear.

The problem was people started to over think it and when they seen the revs staying up they started delaying the shift which lead to lumpy gear changes.

Are the revs just hovering a little over where you were or are they shooting up by thousands?

doesn't sound likely if it's only recently started and is getting worse
