    Hi all,

Am finishing a college course/internship mid sept and will be starting work mid Oct. I am on back to education through DA and am wondering if I can apply for benefits for the 4 weeks I'm awaiting to start work?

    TIA

I mean on the one hand if your able to work should you be on DA. But I suppose the case could be made that you have an unreasonable restriction on finding work based on your Illness and that still stands right until the day you start work. Are you still considered disabled is the long and short of it. If you genuinely feel that you are and nothing has changed from when you first qualified for DA then I don't see why not.

Then again your alternate route is JA while you wait and make it clear your looking for and available for work untill you start your new one.

Back to education having qualified through DA is not the same as being on DA. The OP is on Back to Education, not DA.

If you are available to work and searching for work you should qualify for unemployment benefit/assistance. Only way to know is by applying and leaving it to a deciding officer.

Yes, you can definitely apply! But whether you'll get benefits is another matter.

You'll need to satisfy the Deciding Officer that you meet the criteria for the benefit/allowance that you've applied for. For example, if you apply for JB/JA then you'll need to satisfy them that you're fit for work, available for work and and actively seeking work during that 4 week period.

But you should definitely apply - if nothing else you may get PRSI credits which could be useful at some future date.

Back to education isn't a scheme in its own right. A scheme you satisfy the criteria and qualify for a payment. For back to education you have to have an underlying entitlement to a qualifying scheme. Just like the national internship schemes etc. And regardless it doesn't make a difference as op would automatically continue his da as long as he satisfied the conditions.

You might note it doesn't preclude you from searching for work while on da. The idea of da is that your illness is severely limiting your ability to find sustainable work not to mention other difficulties such as travel etc. So why would he have to sign for jobseekers if he still qualifies for da?

    Similar question to OP.
I was let go from my job a few weeks ago but have been offered a job starting in a month. Can I get anything from DSP between now and then?
