Bar license question

If a bar licensed is allowed lapse for 5 years or more is it gone for good or is it possible to reactivate it?
The pub is pretty much a derelict building now, I know the license was allowed lapse so it would need an awful lot of work before it could ever trade again.

I just thought that after a certain amount of time the license disappears and that's it.....can't be reissued

If the publican failed to take out a licence for the previous licensing year you must apply to the courts to have the licence revived. This is a costly business which gives objectors a chance to come into Court.
