Home Security in new build

    Hi All,
I am nearing completion of my home and am thinking of home security.

Basically I am looking to install an alarm system and a few cameras, I would like the cameras and alarm to be linked some way so that I can see the place if the alarm goes off. I would ideally have 4 cameras external to the house. The house is already wired for cameras and alarm.

I would manage with a limited number of PIR's inside the house to cut down on cost and still be secure, I know I wont have funds to add sensors on all doors and windows.

I would like to be able to view my cameras and status of alarm on an app and i don't want to pay a monthly fee for monitoring.

I am wondering what are my options and even rough estimate of cost

    many thanks
    Reg

I would say a proper alarm first. Sensors & contacts on all accessible windows & doors & a couple of internal PiRs as a minimum. After that look at the CCTV.
With many systems these can be integrated later.

    thanks Koolkid,
Agree I need to think of the alarm first, wondering what system will I use or should use to monitor it myself.

also want something i can add the few motion cameras too

There's a good sticky about the different monitoring issues, we are trying to push people to it as it's asked regularly

My recommendation of systems would be GSD or Siemens/Vanderbilt.
They both allow the options of free self monitoring via apps. This can be upgraded to multiple paths for people worried about relying on IP only.

thanks again Koolkid, the SPC 4000 systems documentation looks easy to follow

am i right in thinking if the alarm goes off I will be notified on the App,

    thanks

At the moment on IOS you can be notified via push notifications on the app and via email.
The update for Android for push notifications is pending.

Honest question; how do you deal with a notification in the app when you're a couple of flights away on holidays?

If you have a data connection you can check the alarm and zones, disarm and rearm.
With Siemens Vanderbilt you can also do this from any internet browser if you have no connection on the phone.
If it's anything serious your contacting friends /family nearby.

Depends on what the notification is.

If its a verified intrusion you can try the guards,a close neighbour or family.
If not then a reset of the system and take it from there.

spoke to my electrician today who spends a lot of time fitting alarms and camera systems

he tells me the alarm and camera system are totally independent

i thought there would be a common system that both would be plugged into to interface remotely with the home owner

two independent systems obviously brings more expense

I thing you are far better off getting notified than having a monitoring firm to the monitoring for you.

the monitoring firm will ring the guards who wont come out for hours at least a family member would be more responsive, worst case you can ring the guards yourself

For a full CCTV system with recording & back up facilities it would be 2 separate systems. Systems like GSD & Siemens Vanderbilt can integrate with the main brands like HIKVision so cameras can be viewed on the alarm systems app.

They can be but some systems also have the option to add PIR cameras to get snap shots to an app. These would be limited as to you would not get live viewing or have a playback facility. Having both separate is more expensive but does have it's advantages aswell.

I have a hkc installed that notifies me via a gsm dialler with a SIM card. Very effective and allows me to set / unset and a lot of other features. One thing I did when I was wiring the house was I put the outside lights on a 12v relay so basically if the alarm goes off it brings on all the outside light until the alarm is unset. I also installed a klaxon in a tree in the front garden to boost the outside alarm noise. Little things like that you can allow for if still at first fix stage. I certainly wouldn't skimp on putting a contact on every door and window.
