I have one of these, The speaker wires to one side was never correct and in the past when i put volume too high it stops and "power protect" comes on.
All i ever need do was turn off lower volume and all ok.
I disconnected all the cables, left it off over night, i also pressed enter/stop/standby all at once which brings up cold reset but changes nothing.
When now off it will be in "sony demo" mode, when i turn on it will be normal for about 3 secs and can be switched from cd/radio/volume etc.
After the 3 secs it will flash between protect and push power.

    I would welcome any ideas.
    Many thanks

An actual model number would help folks find the device you're talking about, so we can help

Page 32 of the manual suggests you might need to check the speaker cord, is it something that can be replaced?
