The restaurant at Shannon Airport has gone downhill bigtime over the past few years. Normally we grab breakfast at the airport when we land before embarking the 3 hour drive north to Mayo, but after last years debacle, we are looking for something better just as long its not too far off the highway.

While Im at it, does anyone know when the motorway to Tuam will be open.....were travelling between August 18th and 28th

I travel this road a lot going home to mayo myself, there's not much really once you leave Shannon! Bunratty is nice but the wrong side for you! Your best bet is gort, there is a hotel in the square that's fairly good and a few nice cafes! It's only 30 mins up road really. If you can survive to go further, the last hotel in claregalway going to mayo is really nice too! Hope that helps!

Also the road won't be open as far as Tuam for you unfortunately, I hope it's open soon though

The landside restaurant before security is gone in Shannon Airport anyway, so you've no choice anymore, you cannot eat unless you're departing. Very stupid decision to close that in my opinion but anyway!

Thanks for that info....Im not surprised, it has gone downhill over the past few years. We used to look forward to catching our breath and grabbing breakfast before hitting out. Last couple of years we have been dreading it
