Hi, I currently drive a jeep which is taxed commercially and insured privately. I plan on upgrading to a newer second hand model. Will I now run into difficulty taxing a new vehicle commercially as I am not vat registered? I do use the vehicle to transport tools as part of my job, will a letter from my employer to this effect do? Or is it just a matter of updating the vehicle details? Thanks.

Check the website of your local authority for details of what they require to tax a commercial.

Being vat registered has nothing to do with it.
Commercial insurance, weigh docket if over 3500kg( I think) and an Rf111a form is what you will need. Plus a current DOE cert.

Different local authorities have their own requirements.
Check your local authority website, get the right documentation together and you should have no problem.

    RF111A states:
    "
In order to tax a vehicle at the goods rate all applicants must confirm that they are registered for tax purposes as a business with the Revenue Commissioners by providing their Revenue Registration identity number. "
