Hi again everyone so got the clutch replaced in my van as it was causing awful crunch.. gearbox was opened and checked nothing wrong with it so as he says.. but there's still a slight crunch when changing gear he checked everything and bled everything it has improved but still there a little bit also since he changed the clutch the clutch pedal is really really soft should it be like that... is there something he may have missed that would be still causing the crunch ? He also checked clutch cylinders and he said there all fine and bled them but problem is still there but not half as bad before work was done anyone have any other idea what it be ?

Not in every gear mostly 1st 2nd 3rd but has improved alot since they fitted the new clutch so as they said they did anyway ... but they 100% opened gearbox cause I checked and it has all new gasket sealer on it so had to have been opened .. they litterly checked everything so they said clutch gearbox clutch cylinders new gearbox oil they also checked gearbox sector and gear cables but there's still the odd crunch

Well if they "checked" everything, they mustn't have checked hard enough. If it's crunching there has to be an issue.

I'd also highly doubt they split the box to "check" inside.

If the clutch was gone or damaged it should have been fairly obvious by looking at it. I also doubt that the box was opened. I'm not sure what it would show anyway. It would have been easier to replace the box with a second hand one. How old is the van and what is it.

Maybe the drivers seat is too far back. I've seen it before, gear crunching because the clutch pedal doesn't quite travel all the way to the floor.
The drivers defence was "looking cool"

My understanding is that you generally wouldn't tend to open up a modern gearbox. Rather, as a general rule acquire a second hand or reconditioned box. Might be a bit different if it was a gearbox specialist but it wouldn't be common practice for a general garage to take one apart as I understand.

What about those VAG boxes with the end cap , release bearing and push rod. Could have used some blum instead of a new €5 cap.

I don't really drive with the seat far back i am depressing the clutch fully while changing gears

Well they had no other choice to take it aprt I have 2 months warranty left on it so they have to discover the problem really

IMO you're being too naive. They will tell you any yarn to fob you off. 8 weeks is no time to keep spinning a yarn until you are outside the warranty period. You have discovered the problem, yet here we are.

They either can't change a clutch or the van needs a box. If it wasn't crunching before the clutch change then it's unlikely to need a box.

    Cowboys Ted.

To be fair it was crunching before the clutch change and it still is but has slightly reduced crunching when changing ... sometimes it can go perfect without any crunch then just comes back out of no where :/

If it's under warranty tell them to either fix the crunch or give you your money back. IMO it sounds like it needs a box.

This is where they opened the box I am going to bring it to the dealer during the week and make him drive it to see for himself ... this is the picture ..
