Checking car out pre-purchase

    Quick general question

If buying a car from a main dealer which is still in warranty, is there any real additional benefit in having the car checked independently by a mechanic etc?

Or are you really buying as seen with the few years' warranty acting as a safety net ?

If buying a car from a trusted dealer with warranty I'd probably not get it checked out by independent.

I bought my car from Benz showroom this year, still under warranty.
I feel i should have it checked with independent technician.
There were some flaws in interior and painting.
Engine wise no issue so far

A mechanic will spot issues that are easier to rectify when you have the cash in your hands. It's always easier to get work done before they have your cash than after.

Every garage operates on tight margins so they'll do the minimum required to sell it so small issues might be skipped that would require you to return to get resolved, even if free it'll still require several hours of your time.
