So Colm Hayes becane Programme Director earlier this year and now Ruth will be presenting a Saturday night show. Both were until quite recently presenters on 2FM. Which 2FM presenter do you think they will poach next?

Hector will be back doing the breakfast !

Hector will be back doing the breakfast !

He won't. He said in an interview not too long ago that he had to set NINE alarms every morning to get him up for it "and only the seagulls are awake by then". He lives in Galway anyway so I can't hear him on a Dublin station.

Larry Gogan to replace Courtenay..(same age anyways)............:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

"I was thrilled when I got the call from Colm," she said. "It’s almost the icing on the cake. Nova is a great station and getting better all the time and I can’t wait to roll out a bit of Bowie or The Beatles."

So it more Beatles and Bowie then....fcuk sake...

ah man.. i used to love the dry wit of Cooper. Gonna miss him.

Another reason to tune out of that station.

Well with Fanning wanting to move back to RTE1, he might be tempted to jump ship if he's refused too often....watch out Pat James...Dog forbid...

Which would you rather tune out of - Aifric O'Connell and Stephen Byrne, or Colm Hayes and Ruth Scott?

As well as Colm Hayes, Programme Director, (mentioned in the article) she would know John Clarke from 2FM. Ruth may possibly know Marty Miller. It depends on whether or not Marty was there during some or all of her time with 98FM and if their paths actually crossed. It says she was with 2FM for 18 years. If that article is accurate, it is possible that she may briefly have known Mike Maloney as well before he left 2FM.

She's absolutely brutal. I wouldn't have her as cover on a regional station tbh. One of the very very few decisions (although I accept it probably wasn't an actual decision - more likely something that happened by accident) that 2FM got right.

That is awful news, don't usually agree with the hate that many djs get across the stations but she's one I could not stand on 2fm instant change of station. Total ladette tries to hard type, was expecting more!

Just goes to show that the big wigs at Nova dont give a sh1t about rock music or care , its purely business..With the couple of (well documented here) exceptions none of their dj's are remotely interested in rock music ..its just another job to them...it has turned into yet another mainstream ad infested pop station...
I'd say Ruth's keyboard is smoking form googling "Classic rock bands"......Dont worry you'll fit right it...

will that plank Paddy mc Kenna join her as well, she's a square peg in a round hole , there could hardly be a worse choice .

I am actually starting to think Ruth will in fact be Marty's new co host on Morning Glory. Note how the Saturday schedule still only says "Saturday Nights". I think someone less known like Steve McQuarrie will get the slot with Ruth getting the breakfast spot.

Ruth's late show on 2FM back in the day was actually pretty good. Mostly rock and indie stuff so I wouldn't be too worried about her music selection

agreed but i doubt she'll be allowed to play what she likes.........

True so she can hardly be criticised for the music selection, which some people seemed to be doing.

Strict playlists are the main problem with radio stations these for me

True true but she probably had more freedom on 2FM....

She stopped having freedom at 2fm when John Clarke was removed as pd

I think she was the first national presenter anyway that I thought of as not having much knowledge or passion about music, compared to her peers or other presenters who were on 2FM in late 90's / 00's. She was just there to present a show, not a "DJ".

I doubt she ever selected music for her shows...even in the early days. So Nova will suit her.

Now there are too many like her, but half her age on prime time national slots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,101 ✭✭✭Max Headroom

Maybe Hayes will let her play a track from the new Tori Amos album, which is excellent...check out "Up the creek"....but then again its too good for Nova...

    Seems pretty logical. Maybe C&R 6-10am, Greg 10-1pm, Pat 1-4pm, Marty 4-7pm?

I'm not a Ruth Scott super fan or anything but I used to listen to her late show on 2fm and found her knowledge of music to be quite good and I was a real music snob (or thought I was) at the time.

Pretty sure she did select most of her music back then. I remember Rick O'Shea took over while she was on leave and he had free reign to play whatever he liked and it was a very good show.

The other side of the coin is that if you get a DJ who loves their music then thats what they'll play "their music"..even for the dj gods like JC,PJ even John Peel, theres some stuff that i dont like and some i never hear because they dont like it..if you get me..

Lisa Gernon is on tonight. Think that could be another sign that Ruth is going all the way onto the brekkie show.

Bit daft her off already after only 2 weeks on the slot ?

All mention of Johnny Bowe and Alice Cooper has been removed from the Nova website. Still no presenter listed for either show.

Becki Miller is presenting Nova Saturday Nights tonight. Well I think it's her. Certainly sounds like her.

She used to do TRL on SPIN 1038 for those of you who aren't familiar with her.

She was on 98 for years, so she's well used to the Dublin market. Always felt that RTE treated her like crap. She had a full gig for a few months with Rick on breakfast.

Today was Siobhain McDonnell's last day. I wonder is that another sign that Ruth & Marty will be hosting Morning Glory with Conor Irwin going back to reading the news?

Liam Quigley was on in the Saturday night slot this weekend. He did 2FM weekend breakfast 2003-2005 so that's at least three ex-2FMers who've been there in recent weeks: him, Ruth Scott and Colm Hayes.
