I hope this hasnt been done and dusted before as part od the reminisence treads but I'd be interested in peoples memories of the old cinemas in town. The first film I saw myself was Condorman in the Adelphi. I'm pretty sure it was before they divided up the the place to have a few screens on the go.
The (Casino?) at the Old Shopping Centre I saw a Bond movie with my Dad.
What has prompted me to ask is that I went to see 'Dunkirk' with my Dad in the Omniplex at the retail park and he was things have come on a bit then with cinemas as its almost as comfortable as The Carlton in Dublin!? I was never in the Carlton on O'Connell St to comment. Dunn i he was being sarcastic.
The Magnet is often commented on by people.
There was a cinema on Park Street where the Argus office is now roughly I believe that went on fire and the story seems there was an ironicly named film showing like Blazing Arrow or something.
There have been film screenings i'm sure in various community halls, but other than the 3 more permanent cinemas in town has there been any more? and wHat memories do yiz people have, what fillms were on show etc? Intermissions at films in the Adelphi were pretty unique im my memory and not just for epic type movies.

    IMC too i forgot about.

Very young but remembering to queue up round the block to see Grease in the Shopping centre ( were they just called screen 1 and screen 2? ) No offense to the film but I fell asleep :)

St Nicholas's Hall was a fine cinema, as was the Oriel in Park Street - the fire story is a myth. The Magnet was a kip from the day it opened.
