    Hi there

Have just been offered a job by microsoft and told they'll Be doing a background screening check. Does anyone know whether I need to have p45s for all of them myself or whether they contact the employer themselves? Also how far back do they go and do I need original copies of my qualifications or do they do that themselves?

Not worried about any element as I've been truthful but if they need the documentation I need contact revenue to get copies myself as I just dont have a clue where I put them. If they contact the employers, would like to contact them as a coiurtesy to expect the call. How easy or hard it is to locate the info all depends on how far back these checks normally go. If it's 7 years or so it's easily done, so any help or information appreciated.

    Thanks

You don't need to provide anything bar what you've already supplied on an application form and CV. Presumably they'll check your references so would be in touch with the contacts you listed on your CV - might be no harm to give them a call to say someone might be in touch.

P45s are solely to do with Revenue and Social Welfare entitlements and they only need your P45 from your most recent employment.

Thanks TaurenDruid for the reply. It's saved me a lot of needless time and hassle trying to source everything.

I had to provide documentation such as payslips from previous employment going back 6 years. Contracts or banks statements showing payment if no payslips. They wanted them to show dates around my commencement and termination of previous jobs. Also accepted photos of membership certs of professional bodies and degrees etc. They also contacted previous employers for reference check. They queried any slight difference between wording on application, cv and their own security form. They accepted explanations tho and any differences were easily explained on my part. P60's can show commencement date of employment too should you not have other relevant documentation.

Congrats on the new job !
I joined last year as a FTE so can share my experience (which may be different for contractors)
I provided scans of my qualifications / diplomas to the company doing the checks on MS behalf. It took a few weeks to validate them as I got them abroad.
I only provided P45 from the company I left and it was provided to the payroll team once I joined. Pay cycles are every fortnight and payroll are good at keeping on top of things so once you submit your P45, you may never be on emergency tax.
Sent me a PM if you wish to discuss further.
    Good luck !
