Out Certified sick from work. Feeling worried

    Hi Guys,

Iv been out sick from work this week with Gatroenteritis or a Stomach virus with Vomiting and diarrhoea, it is not pleasant. I thought Id go back on Wednesday although I didn't feel so great but informed my manager id be back then. I went to my Doctor for the Cert for work and he took examination and said I needed to rest a bit more and wrote a Doctors cert to cover this week.

I then had to explain to my manager what my doctor has recommended and my manager asked what the cert dates were and I told her.

I was out afew days also two weeks ago with stomach problems also but covered from my doctor with a cert again.

Although I'm not feeling great I cant help feeling guilty about missing time off work. Despite my doctors advise and having a cert.

If I go in before the end date on my cert I'm not sure what would happen.

I'm a bit worried as to what will happen when I go back after this.

Just Looking for some reassurance I guess or some points of views

    Thanks in advance

    It's certified, so you're fine.

It'd be a really bad manager or employer who'd have an issue with you taking certified sick leave with gastro - to be perfectly honest, I'd much rather have an employee stay home and get well than come back to work too early while still infectious, passing that dose on to anyone else! Most managers would be of the same opinion!

If you do feel fully fit and well again before the end date on the cert, there wouldn't be an issue with going back in to work even though it's "early". The cert is a "last possible date" for staying out certified, rather than a target or obligation, if that makes sense?

    Get well soon!

I once went back to work before the end of my cert because of a mistaken devotion to duty. I did not feel any better and I got no thanks for it! Resting and rehydration will help and whatever the doctor prescribed. If you go back too soon you will probably need another cert!

In my job, if you go back before the end date of your cert, you're not insured to be on the premises and either have to leave or get a cert to certify that you're fit to return to work.

Do as the doctor tells you - they're the ones with the qualifications - not your manager.

    Take it handy.

No, you can't go back to work before the cert end date. You're self certifying in that instance which is not good enough.

You'd need to get a new cert with earlier date from the same Dr getting him to admit his first assessment was wrong. ðŸ˜

Being out certified sick is not a problem for an otherwise we'll performing employee.

you can't go back before the date on the cert due to company insurance i.e. if you have an accident in work when you shouldn't technically be there then that's an insurance problem for you!!

you can however, go back to your doctor and say you feel ok to return (providing you do actually feel ok to return!) and they will issue a letter for your employer to confirm this.
