Anyone getting the Winter Fuel Allowance from October this year will now have the option to receive the payment in two lump sum payments .
The lum sum option , if chosen , will result in a payment of €292.50 in October and another €292.50 in January 2018.

    Its about time
Now we can order fuel in bulk and cheaper

It's all well till people start complaining they can't afford heating because they spent the fuel allowance on other non essential things ,and asking for more

Then they should just keep getting the weekly payment.

    Then its their problem
For 22.50 Euro a week you buy almost nothing , now in can buy in bulk and have more money left in the rest of winter for household things

How do you sign up for the two lump sums

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭marguerite2000

ce season, you will have the option of getting your total allowance paid in 2 lump sums.

To get your Fuel Allowance in 2 lump sums you must fill in form FA CPF 1 (pdf). This form is also available from your local post office, Intreo Centre or Social Welfare Branch Office. You can also text FORM FUELCHANGE followed by your name and address to 51909. To get the first lump sum in October 2017, you must submit your completed form before 15 September 2017.

This option is not available to people getting payments under the Rural Social Scheme, Tús, Gateway, Community Employment and Supplementary Welfare Allowance.

Minister Doherty has announced that from the 2017 Fuel Season there will be an option for customers in receipt of the fuel allowance to receive their payment in two lump sums – one at the start of the fuel season in October and the second at the midway point (January). The current value of the lump sums will be €292.50 each.
As the Rural Social Scheme, Tus, Gateway and CE customers are not paid directly by the Department of Social Protection, the Fuel Allowance trial option will not apply to them but they will be considered further if the option is continued in the future.
For the first issue of the lump sum in October 2017 it will be necessary for customers to submit their completed application forms before 15th September.  Customers who submit their forms after this date cannot be guaranteed that they will receive the lump sum in October, but their weekly payment of the allowance will continue until the January lump sum issue date.
A separate form has been designed for customers to apply to change the method of payment of their allowance and will shortly be available in Post Offices, Citizens Information centres or by texting  FORM FUELCHANGE followed by your name and address to 51909.  More detailed information will be published in the near future

My guess is no! The amount of her DSP payment hasn't changed, only the way in which it will be paid to her.

    No
Its for everyone except those on schemes
For the two lump sums you have to fill in the form before 15 th sept after that date you will get it as usual until the end of the year and will receive the second sum in the first week of January

This night be a stupid question, but by texting the above are you simply requesting an application form to be sent to you which you then sign and mail back, or if you text are you actually submitting your request to be paid in two lump sums? Can it be done via text above, or will texting just mean they send you out the form to be filled in..?

If you previously got the fuel allowance in previous years do you need to do anything extra this year or is this just a change in the frequency of payments.

Will the fuel allowance be paid automatically ?

There's no change to frequency of payments unless you apply!
If you got it in previous years youll usually get it again as long as nothing has changed.

No sign of the letter with my relative either. I suppose just keep an eye on what goes in to the bank account this week, the week of the 2nd of October . They sent off the letter in August when it was advertised on here too.

My partner is on BTEA and has recieved fuel allowance for the past few years. She was told by local authority that the Fuel Allowance will kick in on Thursday however she was unaware that you had to hand in the frequency change payment form so I presume she'll be just getting the €20 a week and not the half lump sum?

Yeah it should go in the same day as the allowance but only a larger amount.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,528 ✭✭✭ShaShaBear

We got it last year and my husband was told we'd get it automatically again this year in his CE scheme (weekly, not lump sum) but there was nothing extra in today's payment. Any ideas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭monicaali

Got the 22.50 with my disability allowance yesterday

It could be late ,but on our scheme we were told we had to supply a letter from intreo to say we're entitled to it before our supervisor will pay it

He asked his supervisor about it and he told him that if he got it last year, he'd get it automatically this year. Only thing we could think is if the payments of the scheme are a week in lieu, maybe he won't get it till next week, the payment that covers this week?

I was talking to the dole about this (well similar), I will be applying late so they said I will need to stay on weekly payments for a while and will not get the first lump, but can apply for the lump sum and get the second payment as a lump if I want.
