It has no hard drive and the limit of your storage is 32GB including the operating system.

A "Back to College" laptop it is not.

It's more of a browsing the web on your couch laptop. Not much use either for viewing movies on as the storage is so low, streaming would be fine though.

    Celeron processors are pure rubbish

Replace the € with pesos and maybe it's a bargain

No definitely not. My phone has more RAM, storage and processing power.

Most beginners will end up finding it frustrating. Its basically a tablet with a keyboard. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wants a laptop.

You're all missing the point of this. It's a laptop for students that their parents buy them to do their homework on. The fact that it's too slow to multitask and play games is a pro not a con. The fact that it's relatively cheap means when it gets broken, it's not such a disaster, and the fact that it's small and light means it's less likely to get broken when it's dropped and it's easier to carry around in a rucksack.

My wife's brother has dispraxia and he does all his schoolwork on a laptop cause he can't write for long periods. A small light computer with a decent battery and keyboard is all he needs.

Sure you can get tablets for less with more power but they're no good for typing on.

For 199 with free subscription to office for a year, this is a good option for them.

The fact that the computer is so slow it might actually force him to learn how computers to work so he can fernangle a few extra frames a second out of minecraft

    depends what it's needed for.
for browsing (with a low number of tabs and without many browser extensions/plugins) and basic student tasks it's light and will do the job. after 1 year the office would have to be paid for but you could install a free office compatible file type program like openoffice.
the keyboard is supposed to be decent.
if you need to install lots of large applications it's not good due to the low storage space.
streaming media as opposed to downloading would be ok but it will likely stuggle with 720p and above and the screen quality is mentioned as not great.
2 gb ram really is very low these days - you'd want to control what is the the startup / on-boot program list and keep it to the minimum.
you could add a 64gb memory card cheap enough.

Amazon warehouse deals are good. You can get a nice discount for superficial blemishes like minor scratches on the cover or if there is a missing manual. You also get the security of Amazon's flawless customer service.

Its not cheap at all for the spec.
You'd get one on Argos ebay for 100 pounds that would be as powerful.

I got a Lenovo miix 300 for €120 last year on Amazon.
It's not really any use for anything , Windows 10 is a PITH on it and I cant convert to Android.

It's one saving Grace might have been as an in car gps , but it doesn't even have that.

Maybe if Windows peels back to essentials for tablets ,netbooks etc , might work better.

I know you can get cheaper versions of the same thing, but not in a local bricks and mortar shop with a decent after sales service.

Again, if i was buying a tool for my kids education, id be glad that it is utilitarian and not a good multi-tasker.

This is basically a typewriter with internet access.

I bought one of these for my 7 y/o daughter last Christmas in argos for 130euro.
You can watch youtube, browse the net,
She plays minecraft also but is now complaining it's laggy.
It's a grand laptop for a child starting out.
Not much use for anything else.

The older model was 140 last xmas. As others have said its not a laptop its a netbook. These Celerons are basically the continuation of the Atom line. As a netbook CPU they are great. I have no problem with mine, use it for VPN into work, browsing, anything I need a keyboard for. I would not use it as a main laptop. But I use it a lot as its tiny, has great battery life, so every-time I grab it, its always has power. Mine in use since xmas has 9GB free and I use a 128GB Flash Drive for media/movies etc. A few tabs is ok, too many and it slows down. Its a 11" screen if you have loads of tabs open you are using it wrong. I don't have a problem with 2GB and Windows 10. I have that combination on a few laptops and they work fine for light browsing and office stuff.

Mine plays Full HD 1080p no problem, and output its to HDMI fine. Decent keyboard, screen could be better. The newer one has a newer CPU and WiFi AC and USB 3.0.
I would not buy it as a cheap laptop. Cheap netbook yes. €200 seems to be the normal price for this though. Its thats price in a good few places.

be careful on ebay. there is a lot of really old stuff from 7/8 years ago being sold there. the cpu will be so many generations back that even if it's i3 (watch out for core duo) it will not be efficient. the battery will likely be clapped out also and it will weigh a ton.

He means the Agos eBay store....

It seems to be the same price there. Also when people say spec they often forget that size and weight are part of the spec of a laptop and don't compare similar sized laptop which is pointless.

Also if you claim something is cheaper provide a link...

NO! This is a 10 year old computer. It is not worth €5, never mind €200. It's a museum piece. It will not run anything of use. It cannot play HD, I bet it would fail to run 720p video properly. And to top it off it has no modern software support, good luck getting anything modern to run.

Anyone who buys this is an absolute fool. The netbook the OP posted is not suitable for a college student as advertised. BUT it does at least have a modern processor that can handle modern tasks, it has an up to date OS and it's brand new.

I got mine E5220 with i5 2520M two years ago... For around €150. The only drawback is Swedish keyboard.

    It is sufficient :D

I got the older model on Argos Ebay ,the Lenovo 100S ,last year for £100,it was new .
Amazon had it for £120 new .
So similar spec ,slower cpu though.

I actually bought another one a few weeks later and by mistake they sent me this bad boy instead :)

    ...

There are a few other differences. The newer one has an extra USB3 port so 3x USB in total. Better WiFi I think, different CPU. It might be the same screen but looking in the shop I thought the screen was very slightly better.

Theres actually three versions of the 100s

    Intel Atom Z3735F / 1.33 GHz. Max Turbo Speed. 1.83 GHz. 4 cores (2xusb 2.0 and WiFi N)

    Intel Celeron N3060 Dual-Core Processor, 1.60 GHz 2 Cores (2xUSB 2.0 1x USB3.0 and WiFi AC)

    Intel® Celeron® Processor N3160 RAM 4 Core (as above)

I thought the Z3735F was a good bit faster in use than the N3060 in machines I've tried. Not used the N3160. Probably fastest of all three.

There is also an Ideapad S100 thats a different machine to the 100S. :)
