Excluding tail! How the hell do I post a pic on here? We had scurring and noises etc in attic and behind wall in kitchen about a month ago. Had rentokil in and were absolutely useless! We had traps and pois on everywhere. Myself and partner are useless also so had a family member checking them for us. We caught what he said was a mouse in the attic in a trap.also have 5 plug ins in the house since all Heard nothing then for 3-4 weeks thought we were all good then over the weekend heard something in walls and then last night himself was up late and heard a lot of loud scratching in wall behind kitchen units. We had traps in there all along behind dishwasher but he set one at the hole beside it coming on to the floor last night. Came down to the trap turned over and cleaned then pulled out the dishwasher and found this guy.

4 inches could be largish mouse or small rat.

You really need to find out where they're getting in and seal it up. You won't get rid of the problem unless you do.
It's time to man up or they will take over.

No noise since we caught him tues night wed morning. Small hole around pipe leading into kitchen we filled it last night. All traps and poison are still in tact in the attic!

Get a cat. They won't catch the critters but they make nice pets.

The one caught in the attic was probably the parent, the ones in the kitchen are her children,we had the same problem a few months ago, move the traps around and there favourite food is chocolate or peanut butter so put either in the trap

If it was a young rat it could have come in through an open door or window , mice usually start to come into houses from September onwards, take a walk around the house and check around all the pipes for small gaps also the esb meter box, also check where the soffit boards meet the wall for small gaps as mice are good climbers

Rats will eat nearly anything including mice. Four inches sounds more like a small or young rat. The tail is thicker on most rats compared to mice. You rarely just get one or two rodents, unless a cat has brought them in alive and dropped them. Traps are best in a house I think as poison can just leave a dead rotting and very smelly corpse in some inaccessible place. Been there, done that. And had my battles with rats - don't mind them at all out in the ditches but hate them in a house.
