Dont we all know that going in. Its the worst racing festival by miles. Poor racecourse, poor horses and only 2 real races in 7 days . Even those 2 races need a stupid amount of luck.

Signs Of Blessing in the big one at Deauville is a bit of value at 5/1 against Caravaggio. Won it last year while Caravaggio has a little bit to prove after his July Cup run.

    Few i fancy for today.

    2.15 Babanango
Had his best ever run the only time he met ground as soft as todays when finishing 6th at Fairyhouse having travelled too keenly early and not knocked about when it was clear he wouldn't finish in the 1st 2 or 3.
Was dropped to 2 mile for his next start and went off a well supported favourite but never got involved, has been given a break to freshen up and in a first time tongue tie i think Martin might've been keeping him for this week to get Mr Breslin a winner which he usually gets.

    5.00 Killiney court
Back to the scene of his impressive Novice chase win from last Autumn and if De Bromhead has got him back on his A game he's potentially leniently treated having run well for a long way at Cheltenham in March.

    5.30 Shamar
Has won at the course previously and his mark has plummeted to a very workable 64, travelled a dream the other day and Gary Carroll didn't give him his finest ride finding more trouble an overcrowded chipper at 4 am before finishing strongly up the hill, he's too big to ignored.

I taught definite soldier would run a big race if going off in front today like he has been of late over fences, and has swamp fox 7 pound claimer on board who looks good value for it.

Did you lose plenty there over the years? Love the annual ballybrit bashing.

It's mixed cards summer racing for mostly dual purpose flat /nh types. You get some smart 2 yr olds debuting there like grey swallow, Capri who win derby's the following season or Melbourne cup winners like media puzzle etc

Goodwood 's upside down handicaps are much the same on an undulating track when you strip away the group races. With 52 races on mixed cards what were you expecting, breeders cup quality?

This year sticks out as being particularly bad. Galway is far too long now, thanks to typical Irish greed, milking the fup out of it. Anyone who follows racing seriously is bewildered by it being considered a big meeting with only 2 good races. Combine that with the typical fields of about 20 odd, the usual strokes being pulled where horses with no form are going in at massive prices all the time and it's just pure punters poison and set up only to fleece those with more money than sense. I was telling people all week if you're betting Galway wait till the last 2 days because the bookies will be a lot more generous then, most people will be cleaned so maybe some favs will start winning at something better than 4/9 etc.

The fact that even our pathetic public broadcaster hasn't bothered to cover it since Wednesday says it all really. Even on Saturday, there was no sport on but they showed some repeat of Who Do You think You Are instead of the racing. You get nothing for your money in this country.

Last year the 2017 derby winner ran at Galway, the 2017 Irish derby winner ran at Galway, the 2017 Albert Bartlett winner ran at Galway, the 2017 Curragh cup (G2) winner ran at Galway, Eziyra won her maiden at Galway (won a G3 last year and 3rd in the Irish 1000 this year) and the Ebor Winner/Melbourne Cup second also ran. All this stuff about poor supporting races is a load of rubbish, the odd maiden can be a bit weak and there are a few low grade handicaps but that's it. Most races are high quality. Galway is streets ahead of the typical Irish meeting.

I'd probably be loosing in general on Irish racing . ( well in theory anyway I don't back everything I put up ). Good wood is also crap a lot of the time but has 2-3 races a day worth looking at . Galway is just day to day Irish racing 7 days in a row .

Galway deserves a bit of bashing because of the poor racing and very poor track . It's great they get crowds etc and I've been a good few times and enjoyed the day but not the racing that much .

You sound like great fun. Galway has been 7 days for a long time now. Did RTE not cover Thursday? A €300,000 race on that day. €2 million for the 7 days.

Think RTE covered the first 4 days

Different strokes for different folks. It's a big festival of handicappers and maidens and once a year punters on their holidays alongside the meat and gravy punters and trainers that keep Irish race meetings on the go in places like Kilbeggan where form means zero and pedigrees mean less.

I love horse racing and lived in Galway and Co Galway for 30 years and only ever wandered into Ballybrit on one occasion in all that time, simply because it's too crowded and annoying there to justify going to see moderate enough fare.

The quality there has improved over the years but the racing in Galway was never about quality, it's all about the craic for people that enjoy the Galway Races fare and the crowds in the city and at the track.
