    Hi Everyone.
I've Hepatitis C virus and i got it some two decades ago. My family couldn't afford to treat my illness so i started to live with it. Recently i'm feeling tired and dry mouth & dry eyes which is not helping me in my routine job. Just Wondering, Does anyone has the idea how much it cost to have Vaccine for Hepatitis C in Ireland. As i'm working and doesn't have medical card and my financial situation is hand to mouth, couldn't able to go under the treatment. Will the State bear my vaccination bill and HSE issue me medical card or do i've to pay myself.
    Thanks.
    joe

Do you mean Hep C antiviral medicines? There isn't a vaccines. The antiviral are free and provided through Infectious diseases or liver units in many hospitals. It might be worth seeing your GP about this.

There is no such thing as a hepatitis c vaccine a d even if there was, it would be too late for you unfortunately.
There is medication available to control help c. As above, discuss with your GP.

The antivirals are extensively rationed due to cost on a need basis - if the HSE is aware of you having Hep C you are going to be on the list for it, but likely at an extremely low priority.

I believe they prioritised people who got Hep C due to failings of the state (unscreened blood products) due to the ongoing liability at the start, but now its based on risk to life. Having a medical card or not doesn't alter the direct cost (zero) or availability (extremely limited) here.

The budget for 2017 is effectively spent already, according to an SBP article a few weeks ago - not available online.

See your GP and get referred to a Hepatologist.
Take it from there, the cost of the drug comes under the high tech scheme afaik and are free.
Get it sorted, Hep C treatment has come a long way in the past 20 years.
