Based in IT Carlow I see, interesting to see an Irish manufacturer coming into the market. Hopefully they do well

Bought a dozen of the SD-05, delight to see an Irish manufacturer.

Best of luck to them, but could do without the subscription nonsense.

Why? It's just a service they offer, doesn't mean you have to avail of it, I didn't. It's seems to be a common sales model for some ball manufacturers, so what's the harm in offering it?

Have you tried them out yet?

I have never seen any subscription service on McGuirks or Halpennys. Anyway, the fact is I went to the site intending to check the price and buy a dozen. I left with a NO SALE, and still no clue how much they are.

No only ordered them when I seen this thread. I'll reply after I play a round with one.

Neither of those are ball manufacturers.

Yes but they're not a pro shop they have a completely different business model. If they were to go sell in mcguirks/halpenny/pro shops it would cost them in terms of advertising and people might not buy a cheaper ball they know nothing about when its sitting beside pro v1's.

Also based on other threads here that discuss online golf shops and adverts.ie I'm not sure 99.9% of golfers buy in pro shops anymore.

same can happen when you walk into a shop

You're right, guilty as charged. Thing is, if they just told me how much a dozen balls are up front I might well have bought some. Anyone know the prices?

25.00 euro for a dozen of their premium balls. 4.99 euro flat rate for shipping. Prices were quite apparent once I added the balls to my 'shopping cart'.

What website are you looking at? There is nothing complicated. The price is advertised on the page of the ball type.

Edit, just realised Ive only looked at the mobile site, the full site might be different.

I just went on their site and its as clear as day. 25 for the good balls or 10 for the cheap ones. 5 for postage even if you buy a few boxes

I got it wrong. You're both right, I had another look and sure enough there they are. Anyway, the important thing is that they do well.

Very interesting. Would love to give them a go if any good. Probably are, if developed through the I.T. Lads, let us know how they play.

Had a look at the review there and decided to order a dozen of the SD 05 too. Quite impressive that Finch was rating them very well against the Pro V1, so could be very good value at €25 per dozen. Looking forward to trying them.

Very quick review, playedy first round with the SD-05, it was very windy and the course was a bit softer after the rain, so not the best conditions to test anything.
I always play with a Prov1, swing speed is mid 80's and normally hover around the 8-10 handicap.

Off the tee I think the Seed maybe slightly longer than a Prov1, the compression would help there.
Longer clubs seemed to generate a bit more spin that I would normally have, Im normally a very low spin player.
Short irons might be slightly shorter than a Prov1, again spin related.
Around the green they felt very similar to a prov, similar spin and feel.
After 80 strokes, the ball is very clean, no real marks at all.

All in all, I think I would be happy to play these full-time.
Also, I think they are made in China, branded as Seed and sold through the Irish company, I also have a very funny feeling they go by other names and I've hit them before.

The fact that Carlow IT are involved I doubt that. Genuine researched ball I would imagine. I ordered the SD-01 a few days ago, not released yet so not too sure when I will get them.

Finch reviewed the SD-01 not the SD-05, big difference I imagine because SD-05 is more suited to lower swing speeds

Yeah could be completely wrong on that, just wondering are they designed or manufactured here.

The R&D may be done in Carlow but if there is a golf ball production facility in Ireland, I think we would know about it.

I may be going a bit mad here but wasn't the Kmart golf ball made here? I certainly remember something Irish about it

    edit.
this thread, it was actually CostCo, the Kirkland Signature Ball.

Not Irish, an Irish retailer... my bad

Got my box of SD05. Tried one out yesterday. Really liked it. Great feel off the tee, does seem to fly off the face of the driver. A few shots I hit seemed to have gone further than I expected (??) Definitely would play this ball at €25 a dozen (plus postage). I'm comfortable with that price point for balls, as I'd probably be losing them quite regularly! (don't think I'd go to €40 a dozen, but that's no reflection on the ball).

Also a very well behaved ball as it refused to get lost in spite of some of my best efforts at times!

Any down side? Well, the Seed name and logo on it look a bit dull imo, but that's hardly an issue if the ball plays well. I really do wish the guys at CIT well with this and hope they keep the price competitive. Would like to support them at that price range.

yea I mean it wouldn't be difficult to design something that looks a bit better.

it will turn people away from playing the ball

Anyone know where you can get printed logos or text on golf balls? Looking for about a dozen.

I got mine during the week, nice golf ball, branding could be better. Assume the production one will be better than the prototype.

My delivery arrived today - will be interested to see how they do. Zero branding on the packaging. Dullish design -even if they had the seed in green to denote Irish RnD it would look better.

Played St Margarets yesterday with the SD-05 prototype. Feels much much harder than a Pro V1/V1x off the driver or longer irons. Distance was pretty good. Decent enough around the green. Comes off the putter (2 ball with metal inset) a bit hotter than a Pro V, so a bit similar to a Srixon AD333 Tour. Jury is still out, but at this point the Pro V is still ahead except for the price....

Yea but what about the 01?

Won't be shipping until the end of August is what I got from them on Friday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 424 ✭✭e.r

Placed an order for the seed-01 18th August, set up monthly order through PayPal.

Have not heard a thing no email confirmation, delivery dates etc.

Then emailed them through their contact form last week still no reply.

    Anyone else having this?

Emailed them twice, got a reply twice. Balls cleared customs yesterday so all back orders will be cleared inside a week.

Error code on the SD-05 can't order.

A good price point if they're as described in this thread

I haven't heard or seen anything to suggest that these guys have researched or designed the balls themself. Is this a case of them putting their logo on a Chinese copy of a premium ball?

The Carlow IT link may be misleading. A lot of IT's have enterprise and innovation centre's attached to them. They are fairly independent to the IT in day to day running. They basically just office space to start ups. You don't need to be doing any real R&D either.

I've played 5+ rounds with the SD-05 and I'm giving up on them, but will try the SD-01 first.
The SD-05 just lacks compared to the Prov1, which probably isn't a fair comparison.

I think it spins more off the driver, it may fly further but there is much less role. Very noticeable on our first hole, the landing area is on a slope and my ball will always roll onto the flat at the bottom, with the seed it's always still stuck on the hill, first couple of times I put it down to swing or wind, but now I know it's the ball.

Second reason is a contradiction to above, no spin around the green, if you need the ball to check, it just won't. I didn't some comparisons shots with the Prov1 and the difference is huge, on a 20 yard pitch, the Seed would run out 12-15ft further on a similar strike.

    Balls are in the post.
The SD 05 are for slower swing speeds so won't compare well to the Pro v1.
Will be interested to see for myself when they get here.
Can't expect them to be a equal but it will be a question is the price difference worth a loss in performance.

    Finally got confirmation email today.

Not playing good enough at the minute to give them a proper review.

    Unless they float :)

So balls arrived last week and used them over the 2 days last weekend.
Very windy so hard to judge distances, managed to get thru the 2 rounds with the one ball so happy with the way it holds up no markings or scuffs.
Feels nice off the putter and wedge and generally didn't notice any loss of spin.
As I said distance were hard to judge but no real noticeable difference.
I did win the comp Sunday so judgement maybe a bit clouded.
