hi I'd appreciate some views please

my brother is considering buying a 161 audi from a skoda main dealer, so we're wondering how best to get assurance regarding guarantee or warranty.

if the garage gives a 12 month guarantee and something goes wrong in that time its back to them, but if something goes wrong in year 2 while its still in warranty, is it off to an audi dealer with cap in hand?

    thanks
    marzic

Depends on what the selling dealer is offering on the car. They might tell you that because it's still got 2 years Audi warranty on it, that you should take it to an Audi dealer directly for warranty work.

They also might offer a 6 or 12 month warranty of their own where you bring the car to them first and either they sort it or they arrange for Audi to sort it. I'd say the 3rd year would be between you and Audi at that stage for any warranty work.

This is what would generally happen. The dealer won't be spending extra on an in house warranty when it already has a manufacturers warranty in place.

Most likely though if there is an issue with the car they will ask you to bring it back to them and they will get it to Audi.

More profit margin on the car for the Skoda dealer then. ;)

Not neccessarily, any dealer selling any 161 Audi would be in the same situation really, so it probably wouldn't have a defined influence on the retail price.
