Does anyone know if there is an period of time you're not allowed be director of a company after being released from personal bankruptcy? I know there was with the old legislation but can't find anything clear since the personal bankruptcy laws came in.

No. Once you are discharged from bankruptcy you can become a director UNLESS there are any restriction orders against you.
