Just remembered the Comic Con trailer for Godzilla that Warner Brothers just kept on taking down off the internet:

Still no sign of it on youtube, found it on vimeo:

I have to admit that was my thoughts when I saw it too. But it's probably the fanboy in me!

While I'd normally agree and The Exorcist is one of my fav films, I always felt that trailer was about 80 seconds too long.

Great trailer for Kubrick's heart-warming feelgood flick The Shining.

Oh, that reminds me of the 2012 trailer

That (trailer) was way cool when it came out.

music had previously been used in a shining trailer from what I know:

The 300 theatrical trailer using NINs Just Like You Imagined.

Flawless imo. Made even better by the fact that back when I first saw it I would have been in the cinema and not watching it on a ****ty phone.

Whatever you thought about the film, MoS had fantastic trailers.

Came here to mention these. I hoped for something special with that first trailer, gave me shivers!

Yeah, shame about the movie though. Such a big let down. You have to admit they did a great job promoting it with the trailers.

sadly the trailer turned out to be far better and more memorable than the movie (it was even parodied by the Simpsons):

Such a great trailer. It feels like it shows you a clip from every scene in the movie, yet tells you absolutely nothing. But some of the clips it does show genuinely intrigue you and make you want to see more. The music works with it absolutely perfectly, intercut with the slow crawl up to the house, and the tagline of "The Feel Bad Movie of Christmas" is just genius.

A trailer that spoils nothing, yet makes you want to see everything. An amazing balance.

This thread pops up every year or so. There is an art to trailers alright and they can really sell a movie. Sometimes, as said previously, they are much better than the movies themselves. I mean look at this trailer from 1995 for Catheryn Bigelow's Strange Days. No footage at all, just a molologue from the movie but intrigues.

They can give a film depth it didn't actually have:

And an attitude it did not have:

As above, music choice is crucial. One of the best uses of a popular song in a trailer and one of my all time favourite trailers

As we all know, some trailers can actually spoil a movie. Witness The Sum of all Fears
which showed them actually failing to stop the nuke and it going off
The director was justifiably fuming when he saw the trailer.

But a good trailer, done right, can be fantastic.

(Even if the movie's not as good as it should have been :) )

Best trailer of ALL TIME and most people are posting trailers from the last 12 months?

If only the movie turned out to be anywhere near as good.

Now, this is a movie that turned out to be as good as the trailer. Also, Jóhann Jóhannsson (who was the composer of the music on the Battle: Los Angeles trailer as well) is a person whose music is practically designed for movie scores.

Surprisingly good trailer for a low-budget movie.

I find most trailers irritating in that they invariably act as spoilers. The most infamous of those are the Fast & Furious films which have the distinction of actually showing the final scene in the films (well the last two anyway). A lot of people may have missed the trailer for Florence Foster Jenkins, starring Meryl Streep, which contained a scene that is actually part of the end credits sequence! The only trailer that I have seen over the last few years which appeared to show the entire film, but actually was quite clever and showed a lot up until the half point of the film, was Prisoners, starring Hugh Jackman.

I find that sometimes with comedies where they show the best parts/jokes in the trailer and you can be a bit let down when you watch the movie.

My favorite kind of trailers are those which just show some clips from the movies with a song over them. I don't need the plot shown to me, that's what the synopsis is for. This is my personal favorite ever trailer.

I remember seeing the trailer for The Prestige, having heard nothing about it until then. Its one of the only ones that stands out to me as something that made me really want to see the film itself
