I don't have a question other than to say I thoroughly enjoy your enlightening posts. Also I found your story about raising your child to be very inspiring.

Actually i do have a question about hedge funds. Do you really need to buy an expensive strimmer? ☺

    Are you based in Ireland?

What would be the minimum amount of money I would need to start investing in funds?

    What are your hobbies?

    ^ That you, Aongus? :)

Do you see any connection between Ayn Rand's acolytes and the current financial crisis?

Do you get home to Ireland often? If so, do people think you're a bit mad because of these beliefs?

You said you've been living in the States for a few years. What are the biggest changes (if any) to the country you've noticed that have an impact on you since you moved there? Are they good/bad changes?

There's a high chance I'll have to/be asked to do a stint in the Bay Area in a few years time. Assuming compensation and accommodation is taken care of, what advice would you give for someone moving there with a young family to settle in and make the most of their time there? Especially if the intention at least, is for it not to be a permanent move?

What would your suggestion be, if any, to reduce the housing supply issue in Ireland? What do you think will actually happen?

Do you have any academic qualifications or background in finance?

    Hello there,

Can you explain Libertarianism for me? I have been reading and there are so many different factions. I quickly got bogged down so this AMA has come at just the right time :)

What about the future do you find most foreboding and most hopeful?

I seem to remember from the A&A forum you were planning on studying the bible to get a better understanding of your GF's religion. How did that work out, as an atheist would you recommend it, and most importantly, what did you make her read in return?

Are you substantially wealthier than your extended family members (parents, siblings, cousins, etc)? If yes, are they aware of approximately how wealthy you are, and has it ever been a cause of strain, resentment, embarrassment, or even guilt?

What podcasts and YouTubers are you subscribed to?

Have you ever had your IQ properly tested, and if yes, what was your score?

How likely is it that a libertarian society would result in a return to Dickensian levels of income disparity and poverty, or does this very question demonstrate a lack of understanding of how libertarianism would actually play out if implemented?

Would you mind telling me where in Donegal you grew up in? Doesn't have to be specific, simply north, south etc.

What did you study in college? Did you attend university in Ireland or in the USA?

What would you regard as the most useful college degree for someone wishing to work in the hedge fund industry? Why?

Lastly, why do you use boards? It seems to be something you invest a considerable amount of time in.

If you've seen Parks & Recreation, what do you think of Ron Swanson? Many Europeans would only be familiar with the base idea of Libertarianism because of this character.

On a different note, where's the best place you've been on holiday?

Have you ventured in to East Tennessee and been to Dollywood? And does your numberplate have First in Flight on?

Have you done the Blue Ridge Pathway? Recommend it if you haven't, and a visit to Tn. too! Though maybe Dollywood for when the junior permabears are a bit bigger.

Do see a financial crisis happening soon?

Maybe not so much with housing, but I'm constantly hearing about a correction in the stock market is due to occur in the to distant future.

You had enough to make a trade of the order of magnitude such that the loss that was created from that trade was seven figures.

You had it on you, basically.

Do you think the story of walter mitty, had a positive or negative impact on the american people during the war?

The Moldy Gowl, don't troll with questions like that. If you don't have an actual question to pose don't post in this thread again. Thanks.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I came across this article a while back: Zodiac Turns 10: Why This Amazing Film Is Libertarian

The upshot being that Zodiac, on one level, can be seen as a critique of both public policy and the overbloated unfit for purpose law enforcement agencies dealing with the case.

The question is, have you watched any movie (or even tv show) where you saw a Libertarian subtext?

Second question. You cited Ayn Rand as an influence earlier in the thread, with regard to the importance of the individual over the group. Where would you place a man like Henry David Thoreau among figures in the libertarian canon, seeing as though he championed that kind of ultra-individualism almost a good century before?
