There are some bands and solo artists that I do not like also.

Agreed. Music peaked with ACDC and GnR.
    Hipsters need to understand that.

Pretty sure Arcade Fire were around and popular before the hipster subversion

I would not be too worried about the image of the band when it is the sound of the music that is important.

nothing massively wrong with any of the 3 bands you've listed IMHO, and I am definitely no hipster

There used to be a great instrumental loop of No Cars Go used by RTE on sports programs, (Soccer Republic maybe?) during the roundup sections where they'd show all the goals, I could have listened to that forever

Arcade Fire are first and foremost an indie rock band.

Their music also happens to transcend genres and attract cross generational listenership.

I only like bands I haven't heard of yet. I love bands that haven't formed yet. If anybody else has heard of a band, they're crap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,940 ✭✭✭✭Rothko

How would any of them be considered a "hipster band"?

Did you try growing a mustache first and then listening to them? If that doesn't work maybe try ignoring the music altogether and just go around telling all your mates that they're great even though you've never actually listened to the whole album through. That's what most people seem to do these days anyway.

I'm currently listening to this experimental new wave krystorock band from Madagascar.

They're totally mind bending, theyve only releasead a demo cassette and they create their sounds by blowing shells, knocking rocks, riffing on algae and playing bovine sounds double looped over whale noises in the background to give it that edge. I'm probably their No. 1 fan.

There were hipsters around when I first started buying records in the early 1980s. It's not a new phenomenon.

My fave music is the sound of a hipster scratching his beard while his cordoroy trousers provide some backing zeeeeep noises as he walks to the local cafe to show of the crap music he made on his macbook...

Sorry PTH but these bands are as far from hipster as you can get. They are played on 2fm fr gods sake.

Listen to some of the more obscure online radio stations or some of the archived txfm radio shows and that'll be where you hear some of the hipster stuff.

F*ck Buttons early stuff is good but pretty tough to listen to a full album. I did not realise they were Hipster tho

On the subject of hipsters and their 'who-can-take-it-the-furthest-back-to-the-past' obsession, I'm surprised some pretentious knobhead hasn't started wandering around the hipster areas of New York, London, or Paris dressed like this:

'Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia' ripped the p!ss out of that look so probably won't ever happen.

I'm convinced Daniel Day Lewis's character from 'Gangs of New York' is what started that pasto,moustache/beardy/greasy look off for these lads

Speaking of the 80's; you know how everyone (those outside of Leitrim at least) laughs at mullets now, most likely in a few years hipster beards will be the same.

Ah here. Fuck Buttons have never done any harm to anybody. I wouldn't just call them random crap electronic noise either. This is a beautiful piece of music - takes a while to get going but it's wonderous and epic. Honestly there's something wrong with your ears if you can't appreciate something about this song:

Sure couldn't we just say that Rammstein is a lad shouting in German? Not that I'd agree with that, I really like Rammstein too.
