Should a company name change affect my employment status and tax? (as an employee)

I'm embarrassingly clueless when it comes to matters of tax, so I hope someone can help, as I am not sure if I should be concerned or not.

I started a new job in mid April. I received and signed a contract. After a few weeks, the owner decided to change the company name, and set it up as a new limited company, and I didn't think much of it. In April and May, my wages still came from the account linked to the original company, along with the payslip.

In June, I was paid, but it was a strangely even figure, and over 100 euro less than what I expected. However, I received no payslip, so have been chasing that this month.

I checked into Revenue today for something unrelated, and noticed that under the 'your jobs and pensions' section, the initial job is marked as being ceased since the 31st of May. I received no P45, nor no new contract. There is no new job linked to the new company name, so I assume for revenue's purposes, I am unemployed?

My question is this, if I was paid in June, but am not registered as employed with the revenue, was I in effect being paid 'under the table'? Have the deductions to my gross salary lined someones pockets? Could there be a months delay in my being paid and that showing up on Revenue.ie as a new job?

I am actually about to be let go from this job in any case, but do want to make sure that my tax is all above board before I go. I am unsure whether I should simply add this job myself, or whether it should have been done automatically.

    Can anyone help?

It should have been done automatically.

In this instance basically what's happened is that you've been transferred to a new company. This happens quite a lot. From your point of view, nothing should change except the name of the company you're working for - your duration of service carries over to the new company, your old contract carries over as it was before. This is legally required, the company can't choose to fire you or force you to interview for your new role unless they officially register for redundancies.

In the background a P45 is issued and the new company takes you on, but this should be transparent to you.

What's probably happened is that the P45s have been issued, but the paperwork for the new company is not in place yet, so they haven't notified Revenue of the details of your new employer.
As a result they've taken too much tax off you because they're taxing you on a week 1 basis.

Speak to the person who does your payroll to find out what's going on.

    Thanks for the advice.

I sent my boss a polite email yesterday asking what was going on, and asking if I needed to register the job myself on the revenue site.

Got an irate email back insulting me and claiming that I would be called this morning to explain. Instead of a call, I got another email stating that her accountants had no idea why I wasn't registered correctly and that I could finish up today (I knew I was being let go, but had not received any confirmation of the date until this morning)

I still have not received a payslip for June either.

I don't know if the oversight was ignorance or nefarious intent but I don't have any faith in any error being remedied by my now ex-employer. Should I just call the revenue?
