That's going to be fun - all that traffic funnelled into a single lane through College Green.

Bus stops will be limited as well each route serving 1 stop in the area:

Sweet mother of god! It'll be carnage, possibly literally.

Was there some mutterings about some of the changes coming in immediately after being permanent ( i.e like no right turn onto OCB from Bach Walk for private traffic ? )

Also whats the work at Capel St/Grattan br for ?

The traffic changes along the North and South Quays and Winetavern St. (basically expanded bus lanes on the Quays) are due to come into operation from August 20th.

They are as per the plans here:

    Original:
    https://consultation.dublincity.ie/traffic-and-transport/traffic-management-changes-north-and-south-quays/supporting_documents/Traffic%20Management%20changes%20North%20and%20South%20Quays.pdf

    (Maps on pages 12-14)

Final (amends Bachelors Walk/Eden Quay but rest of original is the same):
    https://www.dublincity.ie/councilmeetings/documents/s10695/North%20and%20South%20Quays%20Traffic%20Management%20measures%20-%20report%20on%20non-statutory%20consultation.pdf

    (Maps immediately before appendix)

Private cars will not be able to turn right from Bachelors Walk onto OCB - only left or straight on.

Oh I remember I just hadn't seen a notice saying it was the permanent change ( with, you will agree, little notice )

How much notice do you want?
That change was passed by DCC in May, and both the fact and an August implementation published by the media at the time.

The traffic changes don't come into operation for another 24 days - I'm sure DCC will be doing an major publicity exercise before the implementation date.

To be fair it probably is the best week of the year to do this... all schools off, bank holiday week.

RTE are reporting the south quays are set to reopen to traffic from 6pm this evening (Monday 7th)

Thats actually a bit concerning. 8 days work turned into 4.

I wonder what corners have been cut.

What annoys me about Dublin and many other parts of the country is that they lay down a lovely fresh smooth surface, repaint it and all is well.

Till one month later and some service needs to be dug up and a trench is cut in the middle of the road. Making a bump for the next 10 years.

I wouldn't be concerned at all.

They have a history of caution in terms of estimating how long it will take to complete works such as these. Reference the closure of the Red Line through O'Connell Street last year.

Better to overestimate the time and deliver within it, rather than underestimate it.

Getting it overestimated once is fine

Twice is well... so what do we pay the skilled, relevant project managers for then if not to bring this stuff in on time.

No it is called covering for contingencies such as burst mains etc.

    What does it matter?

The issue would be if it gone over the allowed time.

They said that part of the project was to protect the utilities beneath the ground. When the dug down to them, they discovered they didn't need protecting. This is what accounted for most of the time they'd budgeted.

Neither you nor I know what happened when they excavated the utilities. Maybe TII and the contractor are right and no work was needed. Maybe they decided not to bother doing the work, to re-open the road early and enjoy the adulation from the citizens of Dublin.

Over estimate the time and everyone is happy that it is finished earlier.

Now to the Luas Henge boxes on the proposed Plaza..... Not a dicky bird..

If I remember what I read right, the argument is they need to be accessible for contractors.

Although I'm sure they could have embedded these flat in the pavement as well if they'd thought ahead. Still accessible, no eyesores and not taking up any walking space.
