    Hi All,

The Glorney Gilbert 2017 got underway today in Cardiff at about 11.20am.

Ireland have the largest contingent at the event with 2 Glorney teams (5 players per team), 2 Robinson teams (6 players per team), and a Gilbert (3 players per team) and Stokes teams (6 players per team) giving us 31 players. I believe England have 2 Gilbert teams and Wales have 2 Stokes teams (but don't quote me on that - I don't currently have access to the main Glorney site at the minute).

Henry Li is commentating on the event currently alongside junior officer, Desmond Beatty here: https://www.twitch.tv/theyellowdragoon

Live games can be seen here: www.glorneycupchess.org/

ICU report here - www.icu.ie/articles/710 (this is being updated by Desmond so may take some time to update as he is commentating and organising on the ground)

Just to correct my first message - England have brought the second Stokes team while the Gilbert 6th team (to avoid a bye) is seemingly made up of 3 local players. So that's:

Glorney: Ireland A, Ireland B, England, Scotland, France, Wales.

Gilbert: Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales A, France and Wales B

Robinson: Ireland A, Ireland B, England, Scotland, Wales and France

Stokes: Ireland, England A, England B, Scotland, Wales and France

Henry is conducting interviews and post-game analysis for the games which aren't being showed live (Robinson and Stokes)

Round 5 has just begun and traditionally that is when the Irish and English teams do battle - this year being no different.

The Irish team with the toughest task is the Stokes who come up against a very strong English group who have claimed this year's Stokes' Cup with a round to go. Ireland will be competing for second place which would be a great achievement considering France and England B are also extremely strong.

The Glorney team will need some results to go in their favour if they are to regain their cup as France already have one arm on the cup - two points ahead of the English who are a further two points ahead of the Irish. The Irish job? Beat the English first and hope Wales can pull off a big win over the French. The Irish B team have their own battle against Scotland and they'll be competing for 4th place - which would be a huge achievement for the Bs.

The Irish Robinson team are in a dominant position and will require one point to retain the title. They are 5.5 points ahead of the French and 6 points ahead of the English. Ireland B will be looking to overtake Wales and perhaps Scotland in this round - they currently lie 6th.

Finally, the most elusive one of all.. The Gilbert. Ireland lead going into the last round but with the strong French and English teams just 1 and 1.5 points behind. What do they need to do? Well 2.5/3 or better will do it but realistically against a strong English team, we would take 2/3 and hope France slip up against Wales which is very possible - 3/3s have been very hard to come by in this competitive section.

All the best to the players! Listen in to Henry Li as he brings us home with commentary on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/theyellowdragoon
