Air con woes

    Hi all,

I'm hoping for your help with my cars air con issue - I recently had it re-gassed about 2 months ago as it was starting to blow warm air. During the re-gassing the machine only pulled out a tiny amount of refrigerant, the guy performing the service said it was basically "full of air".

Now 2 months later, when I turn on the air con all of the vents start hissing and the air is back warm again. From doing some googling it seems this is often caused by low refrigerant levels and needing a recharge.

Before recharging they put my system under a vacuum for 20 mins and it passed that test fine. So is it possible it has a small leak? Or only leaks when turned on?
Or is the hissing noise something else?

    Thanks

It’s almost definitely leaking. Get a leak check done.

The vacuum test run on most machines will only detect leaks of a certain magnitude. If its taking months for the refrigerant to leak out it won’t be detected during a vacuum test.

Dont just get another regas, running the AC with a leak is bad for the AC components as the lubrication is not being adequately circulated. It’s also illegal to knowingly vent refrigerant into the atmosphere.

Yes leak I'd say, a specialist will run UV dye through it and it will show where it's being released...

An electronic leak detector is much more effective for detecting leaks where it has taken months for gas to dissipate.

Indeed, and the tester/equipment varies too.
FastFit told me I had a leak but a specialist showed me it pass his test. Turned out I had a tiny leak from the condenser.

    How many penalty points?
