It depends on what you are using it for. The official one can be bought for less than €10 (and possibly even cheaper if you look around)
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Raspberry-Pi-Official-Universal-Supply/dp/B00MBH6XNS
Here is some more information https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/hardware/raspberrypi/power/README.md

I went with an official one off Amazon as I have a 1tb drive attached to mine (running openelec) . Pricey but works flawlessly.

Cheers, I am new to the Pi, and I always thought they could be powered from a phone charger..
Then I read this in the description..
2.5 A power supply. With more processor speed and on-board connectivity, you'll need more power. Power supplies for previous Pi boards will not be sufficient. You will need the Official Raspberry Pi 3 Power Supply (9098126 white) or (9098135 black).

and the amazon link you posted has a guy who claims it wont work.

If you mean UK version vs Chinese version, then you may realise that buying from amazon you may end up with the exact same one that is in the op.
There is no real difference anyway, especially not that most would notice.

I have always used a phone charger except for two projects that i took on and did not want to risk making any errors. I guess that they still may have worked. Sometimes though, it is easier to point to the official ones. I did not double check that link as there were a few different ones on the page that were also being sold as working.

I think the guy was claiming you needed the official Pi 3 power supply for this Pi as it needed more power.

Yes he was, but if you look at the others on the page they will work. I just typed into amazon "official pi 3 power" to link to. I did not check it. There is more information on the other two links.

Latest version of Raspbian includes some popup/overlay warnings for over temperature and undervoltage.

Was consistently getting undervoltage warning on RPI3 using a lenovo 5V 2A (ie same rating as the one the guy on amazon says won't work) supply. No such issues with the official 5.1V 2.5A model. Go for 2.5A or 3.0A would be my recommendation.

The thing is, 2.5A is rare enough on a micro usb phone type charger. A lot easier to get in 2.5mm barrel connector. I think they are approaching a point where the micro usb connector could be ditched for future models.

The raspberry pi 3 official power supply can be got at the pi hut. i have a few of these myself. they are £7 but £11 with delivery to Ireland. You can use paypal or amazon checkout and it will be €12.50 or so.

I'd imagine most PowerIQ or QuickCharge phone charger (Anker etc.) should work. Many will supply 2.4A at 5V on all ports, many will even boost voltage a little.

    I've an IKEA 4 port x 2.4A x 5V I'd expect to work.

USB will lose up to 0.5V over some fairly short USB cables, and that will affect current. So, while I'm sure the Pi needs to be close to 5.1V and 2.5A, it's probably got 10-15% tolerance built in, so many good phone charges will suffice...

Note: none of this is based on testing with an actual Pi... yet.

Do the "quick charge" chargers need some handshaking to enable that mode?
Otherwise, good to know about the ikea option.
I guess I was just seeing it from my point of view, I'm knee deep in 3A, 4A barrel connector power supplies!
