VW Golf Tdi EGR and injector fault

Hello everyone, I drive a VW mark 6 Golf 1.6 TDI 105BHP, , I have the car 3 years and have done 70000 miles trouble free driving , the car is very good on diesel averaging between 650-700 miles per fill, this week it has developed a EGR and Injector number 3 fault, VW Ireland wants to get the car into their garage to do the EA 189 NOx update, and they said they will then look at the cars 2 faults and try to fix them as a good will gesture🀔 I'm hearing the update causes the car to be down on power and harder on diesel, Am I better to get the update done with the chance of getting the faults fixed by VW, or avoid getting the update and get the faults fixed myself? What the best thing to do? Regards T

The EGR fix alone on that car would be €850. I would be inclined to let VW sort it out as a goodwill gesture. If you notice performance drops thereafter then move it on.

They "could try to fix them as a goodwill gesture" doesn't actually mean that they will. The EGR on these is in an awkward spot between the firewall and engine. The injector may be a refurbished unit- if so they cost €180 plus return courier and you'll need to replace the stretch bolts and washers, plus washers on the adjacent injector IIRC. The EGR unit alone is €300 minimum for the part. You should be able to take out a 2 year warranty on the new EGR at extra cost- absolutely worth getting!

And as for the update- I'm sure you've done your homework, but it seems to be 50-50 on the risk in the UK
