    This is a bit of a long-shot.
I am looking for two little clips that fit on to the two horizontal thin
    rods underneath bonnet.

    many thanks

Long shot but you could get the part number from here and see if your local dealer can source them. They may have been a shared part with other models.

Use this site and it'll tell you if they are shared with other models .
    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?lang=en
Just insert the last seven digits of your VIN .
I use it without fail for my E24 .

    If they are NLA try
    https://www.wallothnesch.com/

    Good luck .

BMW Classic Shop is closed for maintenance at the moment, but IMHO is the best place for all kinds of parts.

Enter your VIN in Realoem (See Tom Petty's post above) and find the diagram.

    Kenny,

The unit is made of about 5 different components and they are all individually listed, its like a stud two clamps and a plastic thing in the centre the two bars fit into and maybe another piece.
I was hoping there may be a given name for the entire unit.
    I think parts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 make up the thing i need.

    regards.
