First road bike - Merida Ride 300?

Looking to get my first road bike on the B2W scheme. I know nothing about bikes apart from what I've been reading lately but I've a few friends that cycle and a 20km commute I could tackle every now and again. Local bike shop recommended a Merida Ride 300 for €1150, any opinions on this bike? Or alternatives around same…

That is nice bike.

A direct order bike would be better value e.g. Canyon Endurance Al, but is often more hassle to arrange on the btw scheme because it's coming from Germany so the VAT treatment gets complicated. And sizing is harder.
