Double trouble - the only way to fame these days?

Seems like there is a growing trend these days

    Wade Van Niekerk (1st man sub 10, 20, 44)
Isaac Makwala (1st man sub 20/44 in same day)
G Dibaba (1500/5000m double - talks of her doing 10,000 over 1500 this year though)
    Galen Rupp (10,000m/Marathon in Rio)
Kasten Warholm (400/400mh U23 double attempt)
    Ingebrigtsen (Euro Junior treble attempt)

Is it just the talent to be competitive at various events driving this or is this seen as the only way to get a bit of acclaim after years of bad press trying to offset the malaise in Athletics.

I don't think it's a new trend tbh. Quite a few athletes have had success doing more than 1 event.

    Carl Lewis
    Michael Johnson
    Kelly Holmes
    Alyson Felix
    Seb Coe
    Steve Ovett
    Hicham El Guerrouj
    Gail Devers
    Alberto Juanterino
    Mo Farah
    Kenisa Bekele
    JJ Kersee
    Svetlana Mastercova
    Usain Bolt
    Elaine Thompsom

    To mention just a few.
