Car radio - speakers not working, but tweeters OK

A relative of mine has an 08 Honda CRV. The 4 main speakers suddenly stopped working, but the 2 tweeter speakers are still OK (although producing a tinny sound - as one might expect).

We got a second hand unit for it (also from an 08 Honda CRV) and I installed it - but the result is the same - tweeter speakers ok, but the 4 main speakers are dead.

Any ideas as to what I might try next? Thanks, in advance

You need to start checking the connections/wires. Do you have a voltmeter?

I would check the speakers themselves and the connections for them in the door as corrosion at the speakers seems to be an issue in CRVs

It is likely they have dropped off one by one and you've only noticed it now that they're all gone.

I would have thought the tweeters and door speakers are the same connection from the back of the stereo so your issue is more than likely at the other end.

That's just my interpretation of it anyway.

Does your model have rear speakers?

It has 4 speakers, mounted on the front and rear door panels. The tweeters are mounted on the dashboard, near the windscreen.

On the basis of your reply, I have done some googling and you are right - CRVs seem to have a problem with corrosion, where the wires are connected to the speakers. The tweeters (which still work), are located on the dashboard and would not be subjected to the same problem, I guess.

When my daughter brings the car home again, I will take off the door panels and check the condition of the connections.

Thank you for putting me on the right track.
