I didn't know DAB radio was available in Ireland, so never even considered purchasing a DAB radio.

They certainly didn't publicize themselves much.

RTE have nine stations on DAB five on dab only and in their wisdom they are only available in dublin cork and limerick is should be closed down our national station paid for by our licence fee a public service broadcaster is ment to service all of the population not the privileged few

I remember years ago the father got a dab radio, thought it was great, then one day nothing but rte.

I'm sure I read somewhere rte blocked all but their stations, shame as was like internet radio without needing WiFi

I didn't think it was RTE blocking any other stations. It was something like a trial period and when it ended RTE were the only ones to remain. There's a bit more detail but that's the general gist I think.

Shame it wasn't as widespread or as publicized as in the UK. It seems the BAI have no interest in the medium whatsoever. Giving 'lack of interest from the independent sector' as a reason for shutting down the multiplex, given that no licenses were ever advertised and very few people knew of the multiplex, is ridiculous.

there was no legal framework in place to operate a station on dab, so the BAI couldn't advertise any licences. i believe they are going to look into rectifying this.
anything that broadcasted did so as part of a trial, i presume they were on a trial licence from comreg like the multiplex operators?

so it seems for now dab won't be going to far. a pity really.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

I can understand the commercials keeping away from dab, I mean what would be the selling point of listening to today fm or fm 104 on dab instead of FM ?

Zenith Classic Rock was on DAB a few years ago. Used to love this in Dublin. Have to use internet radio to listen to them now. Funny thing though, they have had a money request on their site since leaving DAB requesting donations to raise 1000 euro to renew their DAB licence. I think this is a scam. 1000 euro could have been raised in minutes.

They haven't updated their site in a while. Last time I was on there a couple of months back I'm fairly sure the FM frequency they used throughout there temporary license period was still up there
