One wonders if anybody has thought this through? Or it another bit of 'Brexit mental diarrhea'?

To grab a large number of British payment card numbers, which one can peddle in the darker corners of the net, from wherever on the planet you are, set up a 'sexy' website homepage - with an under British law we must verify your identity" requirement, using a credit card. No charge will be made to your credit card. Access to this site is totally free. Just enter your card number, expiry date, cryptogram (eg CVV on Visa), and postcode. Even if only 10% of visitors fall for it, it could be a nice little earner for the fraudster. And of course there is nothing to stop little Nigel from using one of his parents' credit cards. And one has the VPN/Proxy workaround mentioned in the article. (Perhaps May's next act will be to ban VPNs in GB - like the Chinese are doing in China).

A totally dumb idea, Mrs May. Even dumber than Brexit!
