Any idea why it has blown? Is it a diesel or petrol? Were there warning lights or high temperature reading before the engine failed? When did you last check oil or coolant levels?

You need to clarify better what has happened.

Right now OP reads like "car is broken, why?"

It is a Diesel car fully serviced with 157km on the clock no warning just a bank and oil all over the road and engine spread across the road. No lads if it was my car Id say ya but the wife is religeous on service and ensuring everything is covered and serviced well in advance. THe oil would be checked every few weeks no overheating issues just a call today to say the car engine was spread over the main road and waiting for a tow truck. According to the mechanic the engine is a gonner either turbo blow and sucked il into it or just went belly up. Anyone ever had this issue before with a toyota or come across this

Is there a chance the sump was cracked as a result of hitting some object on the road so all oil was eventually lost?

What was the lead in to this. Did the engine rev out of control of its own accord just before imploding?

Ha ha you're seriously deluded if you think your insurance company are going to pick up the tab on this job, not a hope.

    Was it smoking beforehand?

Don't expect them to pick up the tab just wondering if anyone ever came across it. Smoking about a second before hand. Just not something I would expect from a Toyota bit then again probably deluded.

It's not unheard of but quite rare. A second hand engine should be easy enough to source as like I said its not a common occurrence.

Wonder would the Auris engine from that era be compatible, potentially bigger market for engines in UK. No saloon Corollas sold new in UK for about 10 years plus.
