Garda and personal relationships??

Does any one know the rules about dating and marriage in the Gardaí ? For example are two people allowed to have a relationship and still work in the station or even go on patrol together? Would one person be required to transfer to another area?

And are their regulations about a Garda marrying a person (Irish or foreigner) who has spent time in prison here or abroad?

Can a Guard request where to be assigned or is it random? Are Gardaí allowed to serve in the city or town where they grew up or do they always get assigned to other areas? For example, a person from Thurles will be sent Dublin and never work as a Guard in Thurles.

    Cheers

There used to be rules about being stationed with family members etc, but they haven't been followed in years.

With regard being stationed, you cannot be stationed anywhere within 80 km's where family members reside, or have businesses, with the exceptions of Dublin, Cork, and Limerick, I think.

After 5 years service, that exclusion reduces to 50 km.

With regard to your future partner having served time, there was a time when the prospective wife was interviewed by the local Superintendent to make sure she was OK. Once it's not a subversive link, or a criminal gang link, I wouldn't imagine there is much that can be done about it.......
