Payment to Avira

I just went to Avira to renew my anti-virus. As usual I opted to pay by Paypal but when I got into the Paypal site I was asked to agree to giving Avira my Paypal details so that future purchases could be made without having to go to the Paypal site.

The only alternative was to pay by credit card or wire transfer, neither of which I wished to do. There was no option to make a one-off payment by Paypal. I tried to contact Avira/Cleverbridge but their supposed email link just went round in circles offering a limited range of queries that all led to FAQ lists.

So Avira have lost a customer of a number of years. I am aware of the issues that people have with Paypal, and that I am giving Avira control of my PC in using their anti-virus. This is irrelevant - I should be able to make a one-off payment to Avira without them storing my Paypal information.

I had a look at the website, not sure if buying from the software follows same process, but on the basket under the product name I see the option Automatic Renewal, but if you click on it you can change to Manual Renewal.

All you have to do is process the renewal then login to Paypal and deauthorize them. Its very straightforward.

Exactly. At least they made it clear that was what they were doing, I've been surprised in the past by subs automatically renewing when I wasn't expecting it. Very sneaky.
