Coaxial tracing device

    Hello,
    Can someone recommend a device for for tracing coaxial cables, i have 12 cables terminating at one location and i need a device to match each cable to each end port.

    Do you have a multimeter?

    Is so, do a continuity loop test on each cable. At one end of the cable join the braid and centre core together, at the other end check for continuity on the braid and core of each cable until the meter indicates continuity.

    Or if you don't have a multimeter, stick something that generates an RF signal on one end of one cable, then start the tedious job of plugging each cable into a TV on the other end and watching that signal appear!

    I got one of these from Maplin a few years ago.

    There are four caps labelled 1-4 which fit on your cable F-plugs.
    The meter IDs each of the four when connected at other end.

    Better than hopping in and out four times.
    Or in your case, only four three times, instead of twelve! :D
