About time someone lit a fire under this horrible mess of an insurance racket.

Regardless of money saved by insurance companies . the cost of insurance in Ireland will continue to rise. Sad but true.

They might want to tackle the stupid levels of payouts being awarded too especially around soft tissue injuries. If the settlements were not so lucrative then the compo culture wouldn't be so rife. Prevention would be better than cure.

Our legal eagles will make sure to prevent that, they want that gravy train to keep running.

Problem is B we actually don't know what the majority of payouts cost. We only hear about the headliner cases that actually get to court. Seventy per cent of all insurance payouts never see a court. That's the insurance industry's own figures. But the same industry only tells us of the huge payouts that are the cause for our insurance premiums going ever upwards. Clearly not going to court is cheaper for the companies, or that figure would be reversed, but again we only have their word on how much the compo culture is actually costing.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

This may give a lower guide, as settlements likely to be higher

I know of someone who turned down €40k for a back 'injury' after getting hit by an oncoming car. Genuine accident and the usual car written off and medical bills covered. Then came the injury claim. Person is going to physio repeatedly with fake back injuries.

Amazing how a physiotherapist can detect a knot in my back in a deep layer of muscle and massage out tension in layers and patterns but they can't detect a fake injury. Makes you wonder...

I got hit by a car while on my bike and got soft tissue damage on my knee and I didn't get 10 grand...

The whole thing needs to be overhauled, but just because your injury is different to someone elses or lesser, doesnt mean they didnt have one.

I got hit by a car on my bike and I can tell you, Id rather not have been hit, neck and back pain years later, I didn't find physio useful, I was suspicious I was kept been booked for return visits for very little benefit to me. On top of that medical bills for attendance at hospitals, Id say the whole system of how medical bills are charged by hospitals needs to be looked into, its a flat fee for public attendance, but 800 plus for a stayfor a night when you have insurance and may even be going into a public room anyway, how the hospitals charge makes no sense, just getting what tehy can off whoever can pay, so that is a big part of it too along with legal fees.

I suggest Universal health insurance paid from PRSI in the same year, flat rate fees for set services in hospitals, extras from added personal insurance if you decide to top it up, or exemption from PRSi deduction if a minimal level of private health insurance is paid for.
