I'd like to get the engine block of an old Fordson Major tractor refurbished. In Galway. I'm only a young lad (don't have any contacts really) and have found that most people that provide this service don't have websites!

Maybe look at local papers and see are there any vintage rally's. You'd find someone there.

Join your local vintage club ( there's one in every part of the country) and they'll help you with all the contacts you need.

Or go to the local agricultural show and ask there. There's usually a vintage section in the shows.

Or if you're on Facebook ask on the fordson major public group.

Where's grasstomilk when you need him?

I think the way they usually do it is bring a reconditioned engine to the farm and put that in the farmer's tractor and bring back the engine that was in the tractor.

So not sure about a major engine?

They did a few engines for me. You take out the engine yourself or get a mechanic to do it, they will collect it and rebuild it.

That landcruiser and trailer covered a fair bit of the country.:)

Donnelons of Lanesboro are at that game for decades. Prepare to pay, however. A lad I know got a MF65 engine machined and rebuilt a few years ago with them, ready to bolt back into the tractor, €2800.

They might be pricy but I believe their work is second to none.

I spent 1500 in parts repairing my 698T's engine this year and I didn't even get as far as taking the head off! (Turbo and balancer unit)

But if the engine is like new and everything is done with good quality parts that is 2800 well spent. (There is a lot of work in doing it right)
