The card doesn't work in automated gates at Pais. Anyone know why this is whats the difference in the ones used at airports?

I tried it on two occasions asking three different people just to be sure it wasn't me messing it up.

I have never used automatic passport gates in Paris gdn. Always went to French immigration person and then British immigration person. Are they new?

The Irish Passport Cards are hit and miss at what automated gates they work at different airports (and it would seem Eurostar) around Europe.

In fact they didn't work at the gates at Dublin Airport! Though those gates are now being replaced.

My first time so I couldn't tell you if they are new! Was only 2 weeks ago anyway

It has kinda put me off brining the card next time if its not 100%. The queue was pretty large in gdn

The cards are pretty limited IMO. I'd still bring my passport and use the card just for pub ID, etc. while leaving passport in the hotel.

Gare Du Nord or Gdansk? :pac:

The card works really well most of the time. If I've done the route before I bring just the card, if its a new destination I use the card but have the booklet in my carry on.

Funny thing is the card works in UK automatic styles but not Dublins (yet). The majority of ports use manual checks where its never an issue.

We discussed this over in the queues hamster wheel in the Aviation forum ; the biometrics in the passport card are not the same standard
