Land and Mobile Home

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone would be able to help me out?!

My husband and I are thinking of buying a small amount of land to put a mobile home on to live in permanently.

Has anyone ever done this? Do we need planning permission to place the mobile on the land? What is required or reccomended when buying land? How would we go about getting the electricity and sewerage sorted for the mobile etc?

As you can see from all the questions we haven't got a notion about where to even begin! It's only something we are looking into at the minute as we need to save a bit more money to get the ball rolling!

Any help and information would be greatly appreciated!

Planning permission required + effluent treatment system required if there isn't a public sewer nearby.

If the site is in the country it will need to be a minimum of half an acre.

Also the chances of getting planning permission are probably not good.

May I ask why you say the possibility of getting planning permission may not be good?

Thanks for your information by the way!

If it was easy, you'd see mobile homes randomly dotted all over the countryside!

Because mobile homes are temporary Dwellings which do not comply with building regulations.

Generally planning permission is only granted for them in conjunction with a full house application and the time period is limited (usually to around 3 years in my experience)

And they look awful - planners would not want to see them dotted on every corner in the country!

What rural Ireland would look like without planning regulations...

To the OP, I think your only realistic option would be to buy an existing mobile home on land with planning already in place, somewhere that has been there for decades from when the rules weren't as strict.
