Haggling with Virgin Broadband

Virgin have recently installed new cables in our area and I'm interested in upgrading but I got chatting to one of the installers and he suggested I call them to haggle a good price.

What sort of discounts could I feasibly expect to get by haggling? A fiver off the first month or something like €49 for 12 months instead of the standard 6?

Just want to know what I could try asking for.

You can probably get 6 months half price, 9 if you are lucky. You cannot just ring up and ask for it though. You need to call and request to cancel. Then they will put you through to loyalty team who can give the better discounts. Here point out any issues you have had with the service and maybe point out how long you have been with them without a discount if it's worth noting. Then it's up to them to offer you a deal. Some have been lucky and got 9 months but most only get 6 months half price. If you are still in contract you probably won't get as good a deal as they know they have you for another while.

Are they on your land? If not then you can probably just expect the standard new customer offers.

I rang up about cancelling recently, I was offered half price, when the bill arrived, no deduction, rang up and they told me the offer was not available so they continued as is, I told them Id be cancelling in my own time as it doesnt suit me to go looking now, pretty crappy I considered but I just have to weigh the alternatives for price and speed, whats worse is the speed available is relatively low and there is a download limit.
Might be the beginnings of agreements between providers

Well the cables were installed along the gutter of each terraced house on our road so I wouldn't say cables are on my "land" but certainly on my property.

If they could do the 6 month price for 12 months (or 9) I'd be happy with that

If you get plant on your premises you can get 50% for life. Just cabled then you'll get pretty much as advertised.

I'd only need the broadband. I'll try and see if its true that I get 50% off for life as cable was "planted" on my property
